Last summer brought the opening of Bella Musica Music Studio at 903 Commercial Street in Olde Town Conyers. Accomplished soprano Theresa Hamm‐Smith, owner and voice instructor, has enjoyed welcoming several new voice students in these last few months. She has added a piano program and offers piano lessons to students age 5 to adult, beginner to intermediate.
Theresa is a native of Rockdale County. She graduated from Heritage High School and attended college at Shorter College in Rome, GA. She went on to a career as an opera singer nationally and internationally and has worked on Broadway. Theresa met her husband, Ronn Smith, while performing together in Porgy and Bess. They returned to Conyers to raise their young son, Jackson.
A natural teacher of the performing arts, Theresa conceptualized Bella Musica and staged its initial performances and activities in December. These included a holiday recital presented at Remington House and Christmas caroling in Olde Town. Theresa also presented the debut performance of a musical story time series that has appeal to an audience of any age. A Charlie Brown’s Christmas was performed by a group of local voice and theater students at Bella Musica Studio. Theresa will continue the series with other favorite children’s tales and event dates will be announced on the website at www.bellamusica.vpweb.com. Tickets to musical story time events will be available through the studio for a nominal fee.
Summer camp sessions are offered throughout June and July. The five‐day sessions have various themes developed for various age groups. The first session, Broadway Bound for ages 12 and up, will give students the unique and exciting opportunity to learn the background of Broadway, work and interact with experienced, professional Broadway performers. This session starts June 1st. Please see the website for dates and details of all scheduled summer camp sessions.
