Covington Square 002-1As the summer starts to slowly fade away, Main Street Covington is getting geared up for a great fall season full of activities for everyone. If you enjoy concerts on the Square, getting together with friends for a bike ride, attending a car or bike show, or coming together as a community to support the ones in need that surround us, then Main Street Covington has you covered.

The first Sunday of each month you’re invited to gather at the Courthouse at 3 p.m. for the Community Bike Ride. Coast along with fellow bikers through historic downtown Covington on this family-friendly roll. It’s four easy miles for everyone and another seven or eight for those who want to venture out and back on the Eastside Trail after that. You can view a map of the downtown section of the ride at http://ridewithgps.com/routes/3979928.

If you enjoy spending your lunchtime relaxing to some great music then we have just the thing for you. Each Thursday in September The Arts Association in Newton County along with Main Street Covington host the Lunchtime Concert Series on the Square. We’ll have a little R&B, Latin jazz, Celtic, acoustic folk and blues just for you. To see a complete schedule check out http://www.gocovington.com/MainStreet/.

Signature Events

Make sure you save the date of Friday, September 9th as we conclude our 2nd Friday Summer Concert Series with a local favorite, Drive Time Band, at 7 p.m. on the Square.

It’s time to register for The Covington Police Department’s 33rd Annual Fuzz Run. Scheduled for Saturday, September 10th, the Fuzz Run is the largest participatory event in Covington each year, drawing approximately 3,000 runners, walkers and spectators. The race has won the “Best Race in Georgia” award for four years, which was voted on by runners participating in the “Run and

See Georgia Grand Prix Series”. Covington Police Who Care has announced that the Newton Education Foundation will receive $2 for every registered participant in this year’s Fuzz Run! Visit http://www.covingtonfuzzrun.com to register.

Covington’s First United Methodist Church is hosting the annual Community on Our Knees on Sunday, September 11th beginning at 7 p.m. On this night, the community will gather together on the Square, as one faith and God’s people, to pray together for our community. Make sure to bring your lawn chair or blanket.

A new event we hope becomes a tradition is the Farm to Table Dinner set for Sunday, September 18th to benefit the work of Action Ministries in our area. For a $50 minimum donation, guests will take part in a delicious three course meal consisting of locally grown foods. Seating is limited so if you are interested in purchasing tickets and attending or in obtaining more information about Farm to Table Squared, visit www.actionministries.net.

Looking forward to October, the Covington Rotary Car Show is set for Sunday, October 2nd. All proceeds benefit the Empty Stocking Fund. Each year the Covington Rotary Club provides Christmas for approximately 500 children.

It is almost here! Covington First United Methodist Church Change The World Day is Saturday, October 8th beginning at 11 a.m. There will be great music, food, community service booths and a community coming together to serve its people. Make plans to be there.

Another great event on the Square is the Southern Cruisers Riding Club Bike Show to be held Sunday, October 9th. This is a fundraising event with all proceeds going to St. Jude’s Hospital.

An event that continues to grow each year is the Witches Night Out and Moonlight Dash scheduled for Saturday, October 15th. To register and for more information visit http://www.witchesmoonlightdash.com.

We are adding to the list of activities for October including the season premiere of Vampire Diaries and the Saturday Night Out Concert along with Scare on the Square. Stay up to date with all the great happenings and new shops opening on the Square by checking Downtown Covington’s Facebook page.

Until next time, make it a good day!
