Main Street Crew – A Ministry of Conyers First United Methodist – “The Bridge”

eMetro Life Featured

The BridgeYou know that phrase, “You won’t understand until you see it!” That is what happened on January 19, 2015 at 921 North Main Street surrounding the gazebo of the lawn at Conyers First United Methodist Church (CFUMC). Members of the Main Street Crew, volunteers of the community, strangers passing by, and local residents of Olde Town Conyers were able to see in plain sight the need we have in our own community, Rockdale County.

“The Bridge” is a new ministry birthed from the vision of Toni Kelecheck and Phyllis Clark with their passion and desire to impact the lives of others around him. Currie and his Main Street Crew have had a phenomenal two years with Shelly’s Kids and will continue to help that program grow and reach the lives of those in the community as well.

The Main Street Crew meets every Wednesday at Steve’s home to enjoy fellowship, worship, prayer, and planning of their vision for how they can increase the hope and spirits of those less fortunate in Rockdale County. It is astonishing to not only see the families in need, but also get to know them and hear their stories.

With their FIRST outreach effort for “The Bridge”, they were able to serve over 50 people with clothing, shoes, jackets, food, toiletries, water, scarves, and a whole lot of love and encouragement. This was made possible with all the wonderful donations and contributions from local families, groups, and businesses. There were over 75 handmade sandwiches prepared along with the support of AWAKE Coffee Community serving them warm delicious coffee, FREE of charge. We raised $500 in funds to help support the “Bridge’s” mission!! The community is stirring and this is just the beginning.

The Main Street Crew is planning their next “Bridge” event toward the end of February. How can you help and get involved? There are several ways: monetary contributions, clothing, food, time, and anyway you think could benefit those less fortunate. You can contact Steve Currie directly at 404-379-2700 or Toni Kelecheck at 770-262-5394.
