On Thursday, March 10th , Thomas Chastain Jr. qualified and announced his Candidacy for Rockdale County Commissioner Post 1. Thomas Chastain is 26 years old and the father of a beautiful six year old daughter as well as a loving spouse of eight years. He is also a Lifelong Rockdale resident and member of the Rockdale Republican Party. Chastain has worked in the manufacturing industry for over 11 years, with most of that time spent working in numerous positions of leadership and management. Currently, Chastain works fulltime in south Atlanta as a maintenance manager at a Harvard Chemical Research.

Chastain has also spent over five years serving as a community organizer. He is the founder of Rockdale Jobs Group, which is a local voluntary group run by Chastain that works to organize free job fairs and job training events for Rockdale Citizens in order to help them find stable employment. Also, Chastain is the founder and former Chairman of Engage Rockdale. Engage Rockdale is a newer nonpartisan community action committee whose mission is to keep the citizens of Rockdale informed over current events in government and elections and to organize candidate townhalls and debates.

Chastain has received praise from many local leaders for his work within the community. This includes leaders in local law enforcement, county offices, and the state senate. Recently, current Post 1 Commissioner Oz Nesbitt praised Chastain on his Facebook page by saying, “Real everyday people like Mr. Thomas Chastain makd a real difference in the lives of so many others. This morning when I arrived at the job fair, the streets were loaded with cars of job-seekers searching for employment. We have a real issue here in our own backyards and Thomas Chastain is NOT sitting around waiting on someone else to resolve it, he has taken complete ownership of making Rockdale County a better place for ALL. I’m just so glad to be a part of this successful event once again. Rockdale County is a better place because of GOOD PEOPLE like Thomas Chastain.”
