Welcome back to the Dawg House. Let’s have a little change of pace this month.
Did you see where Lee McCoy, the senior on our golf team who came in 4th at the Valspar? He played the final round with Jordan Spieth. It was crazy! Then the following week he and the rest of his teammates played in the Linger Longer Invitational at Lake Oconee.
College golf is team golf; the teams travel to a site and approximately 14 teams play. Five guys tee it up every day and you count the best four rounds each day and play three days to determine a winner.
Where the Linger Longer is a little different is that each of the teams has a host family. The team and the coaches stay with the host family. Charlotte and I are in our sixth year hosting. This year we have the University of North Carolina at Greensboro Spartans. We hosted them last year. This year they are bringing six players and two coaches. (And no, we have nowhere near enough beds for them all; the downstairs will look like a frat house with sofas, air mattress, etc.) That weekend I am a Spartan fan first. I will wear the colors of my adopted team, have dinner with them, discuss our NCAA brackets’, talk about plans after school, meet some of their parents, etc.
You would not believe the quality of young men we have met – absolutely amazing. Absolutely, this is one of my favorite weekends of the year. GO Spartans!
