Rockdale County Department of Management Information Services (MIS) celebrated its commitment to deliver more efficient technology services at the Project Management Institute Atlanta Chapter’s (PMI Atlanta) Project of the Year Awards Banquet on June 9.

Rockdale was selected as an Honorable Mention recipient from among eight finalists. The top three finishers presented a summary of their projects at the awards dinner.

PMI Atlanta credited Rockdale County MIS for its Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Implementation – Phase I Project. The project enhances service delivery and customer satisfaction, and changes the way MIS views and provides IT services to its customers. As part of the project implementation, MIS obtained 100 percent staff ITIL certification, which is a first among municipalities in Georgia.

Rockdale MIS celebrated the recognition alongside other top finishers, including The Coca-Cola Company, The Home Depot, Manheim Technology/Cox Enterprises, The City of Atlanta, Kone, Inc./Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, and Northrop Grumman/the Centers for Disease Control.

“The award acknowledges our commitment to excellence in MIS service delivery,” MIS Director Jim Howell said. “I commend Carla Sligh, our Applications Analyst, who served as the leader on this project, and the rest of our team on its ongoing dedication to seek out and thoughtfully deploy innovative technology.”

The Project of the Year competition is judged by an impartial panel of independent judges who review projects in a variety of categories, including public sector – government, non-profit, and private sector to showcase innovative project management and technology principles.

PMI is the premier organization for all project management training and development, and represents the highest achievement an organization or government entity can receive for project management and deployment practices.
