Rockdale County Sheriffs Office Get New AutomobilesAs the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office begins 2015, last year’s crime statistics have to be submitted to be included in the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Uniform Crime Reporting Program.  Although the RCSO submits monthly UCR reports, the end of year submission is needed to correct, update and ultimately finalize the entire year’s worth of crime data.  Now that the 2014 crime data has been finalized, the RCSO is releasing last year’s figures.

Year Murder Rape Robbery Aggravated Assault Burglary Larceny-Theft Motor Vehicle Theft Total
2014 3 12 27 100 380 1,320 134 1,976

Overall, the RCSO experienced a 20% reduction in total Part I crimes in 2014 (2,467 in 2013).  The crimes that saw a reduction were Robbery (39 in 2013), Aggravated Assault (159 in 2013), Burglary (609 in 2013), Larceny Thefts (1,485 in 2013), Motor Vehicle Theft (165 in 2013).  The crimes that increased in 2014 were Murder (2 in 2013) and Rape (7 in 2013).

Looking specifically at Burglaries, Sheriff Levett and the entire agency put an emphasis on reducing burglaries for 2014.  Through the efforts of the different patrolling and investigative techniques, the RCSO saw a 38% reduction in burglaries.

“All of the men and women of the RCSO continue to work hard to reduce crime in Rockdale County,” said Sheriff Eric Levett.  “In my promise to the citizens to be transparent, the RCSO conducted a community survey and based on the survey that was conducted in early 2014, citizens were most worried about burglaries.  The entire agency worked very hard to reduce all crime but especially burglaries.

The RCSO made several technological and training investments in 2014 and will continue do so in 2015 to help support the deputies in reducing crime.  The RCSO recently rolled out the StarChase system and has several other exciting projects in the works that should help carry out the RCSO’s mission of citizen protection and crime reduction.
