The East Metro Home and Garden Expo will be held April 23rd at the Georgia International Horse Park’s (GIHP’s) Indoor Exhibition Center in Conyers, GA from 10 am-6 pm. The 30,000 square foot show floor will be packed with home and gardening product vendors and an ‘ask-the-expert’ Plant Doctor Clinic.
Do you have gardening questions? Then come to the show and ask the gardening experts at the Rockdale County Master Gardener ‘Plant Doctor Clinic’ booth hosted by the Rockdale County Extension Service. The University of Georgia trained Rockdale County Master Gardeners will be providing answers to your questions about your home garden and landscape. Please bring your turf questions, your dead and dying plants, plant samples and pictures of your yard to the show the Master Gardeners. These garden pros will give you the best answers for your situation.
Secondly, Master Gardeners will be giving tours of the Master Gardener Memorial Arboretum (“garden of trees” in Latin) on the GIHP grounds. The 5-acre patch of woods is maintained by the Master Gardeners. Posts and plaques can be found dedicating particular trees within the area to deceased loved ones and friends. There are approximately 37 tree species within the arboretum including the uncommon swamp chestnut oak. Anyone interested in erecting a memorial may do so by either adopting an existing tree or planting a new one through the Master Gardeners.
Lastly, Master Gardener experts will be presenting new, tried, and true techniques you can use in your own lawn and garden during an on-stage seminar. Starting at 10 am, UGA Extension Agent Steve Pettis and the Rockdale County Master Gardeners will be demonstrating pruning techniques, talking about the importance of protecting pollinating insects, and answering gardening questions from the audience.
The morning’s main attraction is the Georgia Gardener Walter Reeves, the star of WSB’s Lawn and Garden Show and PBS’ Gardening in Georgia television show. Walter Reeves will take the stage at 11 am after Steve and the Rockdale Master Gardeners finish their gardening demonstration. Walter’s gardening anecdotes and garden advice is always entertaining and informative.
