Rockdale County Public Schools’ (RCPS) Parent Academy returns March 5, 2016 for its 10th semester of improving lives. The half-day event offers free classes for parents and teens at Rockdale Career Academy (RCA), 1064 Culpepper Road, Conyers, from 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Class topics include financial planning, computer skills, conflict resolution, helping your kids with today’s math, preparing for standardized testing and more – all focused on helping parents and students become successful in life.
Parent Academy Coordinator Darci Gilreath said she was proud at what she, the planning committee and volunteers had been able to provide for more than 4,000 parents during the nine previous Parent Academies.
“Reaching the milestone of our 10th Parent Academy is a wonderful achievement,” said Gilreath. “It gets better and better every time. We have parents who continually attend and rave about the topics and organization. Not only is it educational, it’s fun!”
“There are a wide variety of classes that address a wide range of needs, and people from the community volunteer their time to deliver this valuable information.”
Organizer Susan Paul Smith added, “Parent Academy is a can’t-miss opportunity. It’s like finding that elusive set of parenting instructions we’ve been looking for since our children were born.”
The keynote speaker will be RCPS Superintendent Richard Autry. The day also includes lunch, provided by Subway, and door prizes for those who pre-register.
Childcare, provided by RCA’s early learning pathway students, is available for those who pre-register by March 2. Families needing care for children with special needs should contact Caroline Hull at [email protected] by Feb. 29.
Parents can also browse local businesses and non-profits in the vendors market. Vendors interested in participating and reaching parents can contact Darci Gilreath at [email protected]
