CONYERS, Ga. – Rockdale County is inviting the public to an open house on March 25 to learn more about flood risk in the area based on recent update work.
The County recently partnered with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) – Environmental Protection Division (EPD) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to complete a partial map revision of the Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) and Flood Insurance Study (FIS) for Rockdale and Conyers.
This FIS includes charts and a narrative report of local flooding so that permit officials can use the information for development in the floodplain.
The FIS and its preliminary FIRMs will be presented during the Flood Risk Open House from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the J.P. Carr Community Meeting Room, 981 Taylor St., Conyers, 30012.
During the event, representatives from local government, GA DNR-EPD and FEMA will provide the most current information regarding the County’s flood risk, flood insurance, floodplain development regulations, floodplain mapping, and timeline for FIS and FIRM adoption. The floodplain maps also will be displayed.
Property owners, individuals living in or near the 100-year floodplain, Realtors, lenders, and insurance agents may find the open house particularly informative. The event is free and open to the public.
