The Newton County School System (NCSS) is joining the Georgia Department of Education’s new statewide initiative to Shake It Up in School Nutrition. The initiative was created to enhance the flavor and improve the perception of school meals by focusing on three key areas: tasty meals, friendly cafeterias and happy schools.
NCSS is Shaking It Up with tasty meals by conducting student taste tests, including Georgia grown food items on the menu, offering a variety of colors of fruits and vegetables, and serving delicious attractive meals every day.
They are also Shaking It Up with friendly cafeterias by decorating the cafeteria and serving lines in an inviting manner, and providing nutrition education tours and lessons to students and teachers.
They are creating happy schools by listening and incorporating customer feedback, and encouraging students to make healthy choices while trying new foods.
“Newton County School Nutrition is excited to join the Shake It Up initiative,” said Jan Loomans, NCSS Director of School Nutrition. “We are always looking for ways to stay innovative while focusing on customer service and serving nutritious foods to our students. “We want the community to know that we are focused on continuous improvement and high quality meals that meet the changing tastes of our students.”
