The New Georgia Revolution FC

By eMetro Times | on May 6, 2016 | 0 Comment
eMetro Sports Featured

new Georgia Revolution FCThe Georgia Revolution FC is our local team and you should plan to go to some games this season. The Revs have been an integral part of the National Premier Soccer League since joining the league in 2011, qualifying twice for the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, winning a Conference Championship, and qualifying for the Southeast Conference Playoffs last season.

Under new ownership for the upcoming season, many changes are on the way, starting with the new President and General Manager, Eric Morrison, whose top goals are to grow the fan base and win a Championship. Morrison is excited about building the momentum of growing a semi-professional team in Conyers and getting the word out that the Revs are here.

Morrison explained, “The Revs are grassroots soccer at its best, but we need to become a bigger part of the community. The team is well known nationally and internationally for producing professional players like Kwando Poku. However, when we walk around Conyers and ask members of our community about the Revs most people don’t know we have a semi-professional team playing at RYSA and we are look forward to fixing this as the Revs make a great impact in Conyers.”

“As the only semi-pro team of any sport in the East Metro area, there is amazing potential in growing support for the Revs but this support has to be earned.” —- To do this the Revolution is making a significant investment in marketing, working with local businesses and nonprofits, improving the game experience for the fans, hiring a new and expanded coaching staff, and putting the best players on the field.

The new coaching staff brings both international experience and local flair. New Head Coach and Technical Director, Juergen Mauer, is a German professional who brings decades of soccer experience as a professional player and coach in both Germany and the United States. Assistant Head Coach Chris Mahaffy is a graduate of Heritage High School, a former professional player, and the Director of Coaching for Henry County Soccer Association. Player Coach Scott Redding is a five year Revs’ veteran, an assistant coach for the Emory Oxford women’s team, and has coached at RYSA for several years. Morrison plans to hire more coaches in coming weeks.

“Our coaches have seen over 200 players from all over the world tryout for the team. We are signing some of the best players in the region and will compete for a Championship this season,” Morrison enthusiastically explained.

Not only will the team be much improved this season, but so will the fan experience. The team plans to add food vendors, provide halftime entertainment, and create a fun family friendly environment. Online game day tickets are only $7 and an entire season pass, which includes a Revs T-Shirt, is only $45. Its inexpensive entertainment and the game experience promises to be exciting.

The home schedule kicked off with the Revs facing many of their former players when they play new crosstown rivals MOBA FC of Peachtree City on April 30. On May 7th, the Revs will participate in the I-20 Cup, hosting Alabama’s top team the Birmingham Hammers. Then on May 14th comes the most anticipated game of the year as the Atlanta Silverbacks visit Conyers.
