Do you have gardening questions that you need answered? Have you avoided pruning your crape myrtle or Japanese maple because you were afraid you would do a bad job? Do you have landscape design questions? Well, I have great news. A wonderful opportunity to learn about gardening and your landscape is coming up.
The Rockdale County Master Gardeners will be available to answer all of your gardening questions at their ‘Plant Clinic Booth’ located at the entrance of the annual Cherry Blossom Festival http://www.conyerscherryblossomfest.com/. The festival will be held on Saturday, March 21 and Sunday, March 22 at the Georgia International Horse Park. The Master Gardeners will be dispensing expert advice on gardening topics such as planting, pruning, and fertilizing.
Master Gardener Extension volunteers are University of Georgia (UGA) Extension Service trained community members. They are tasked with educating the public about environmental stewardship, home food production, gardening with youth, the value of landscapes and the health benefits of gardening. If you want to learn more about the program, visit the website www.georgiamastergardener.com.
One way Master Gardeners teach their neighbors about gardening is through dispensing UGA fact sheets and pamphlets. They will be handing out UGA home gardening literature for free at their plant clinic booth! You can take home research-based informational pamphlets at no cost on home gardening topics such as vegetables, flowers, turfgrass, trees, and shrubs.
The Rockdale County Master Gardener Plant Clinic booth will be selling a couple of items to raise funds for their organization as well. The funds are used to pay for educational gardens in the community. One example is the Rockdale County Community Garden located behind the Parker Road Government Annex. One item for sale will be the Master Gardener Cookbook ‘Sunny Days in the Garden, Rainy Days in the Kitchen’. The book includes helpful gardening advice as well as many yummy recipes. The cookbook will be available for $10.00.
In the spirit of the Cherry Blossom Festival, the Master Gardeners will be selling flowering cherry trees. These Yoshino Cherry Trees come as 3-4 foot tall bare-root stems. The trees will be priced at $7.00 each. There will be limited number available so get yours early as they are sure to go quickly.
So make plans to attend the 34th Annual Cherry Blossom Festival. While you are there, stop by the Rockdale Master Gardener Plant Sale Clinic booth located at the entrance. Start your spring gardening off right by getting all of your gardening questions answered.
