Ms. Marhefka's World Language Home Page

A teacher's own web page was, for a while, the most reliable school-to-home channel there was, and this one is a clean example of the form: a middle-school world language teacher's site, addressed first to her students and explicitly also to their parents. The greeting is in Spanish, the instructions are in English, and the structure is a short list of the only things anyone came for.

Those sections are worth naming because they are the whole argument for such pages. Current homework, so that a student who was absent has no excuse and a parent can see what was set. Projects, with the requirements written down rather than remembered from class. Classroom policy, which is where grading, late work and conduct are stated once so that they can be pointed at later. And a set of external language sites chosen by a teacher rather than found by a search — vocabulary practice, listening material, culture pages — which is the part a student could not easily assemble alone. Conference information for the teacher's own professional associations sits alongside it.

The page is kept as it was published on this domain, down to its note of the date it was last updated. Assignments, links and school contacts on it are historical.
