Dominy School of the Performing Arts, Inc. is celebrating 67 years of dance classes in Conyers (this is the 27th year with Mrs. Dominy as Director). Some will remember Mrs. Mimi Hutson who started the first studio there in 1949 and was famous for her Cotillion which taught youngsters ballroom dancing way before Dancing With The Stars became a TV show. Paula Dominy still features ballroom dancing lessons in Conyers nearly every Friday night with a drop-in class from 7:30-8:30PM. The studio’s 2015-16 season has just begun and class offerings include piano, ballet, pointe, tap, modern/jazz/hip hop, competition teams, acting, vocal coaching and krav maga martial arts.
Upcoming events include auditions for the Atlanta Festival Ballet’s Nutcracker for ages 3-adults. Their students are also eligible to audition for the Festival Ballet Company’s spring show each year. Dominy School’s annual production was held this past June 13 and included actors, singers and dancers performing in an original story written by Paula Dominy, the studio Director. Excerpts from that show and current works in progress will be performed free at the Conyers Olde Towne Fall Festival on Saturday October 24th at 3:30PM under the pavilion on Main Street.
