Fourteen students from various Rockdale County high schools were sworn in by Rockdale County Juvenile Court Judge Maureen Wood on November 7, 2016 to be participants in the 2016-2017 Teen Court program. Teen Court is a program of the Rockdale County Juvenile Court in conjunction with the Rockdale County District Attorney’s Office. Teen Court members serve as judges, attorneys, bailiffs and probation officers during informal court proceedings. Members of Teen Court are trained on the court process and supervised by Assistant District Attorney, Timothy McGuire.
Teen Court provides an alternative to the formal court process for first-time juvenile offenders facing misdemeanor charges. These first time offenders have their cases prosecuted, defended and judged by their peers in an actual courtroom setting.
To be eligible for serve on the Teen Court, students must attend a Rockdale County High School, public or private, be in good academic standing with a grade point average of 3.0 or better and have no delinquencies or criminal history.
