Governor Nathan Deal along with the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement (GOSA) announced that Eastside High School has received a Gold Level Greatest Gains school award. Eastside was one of 187 Georgia schools recognized as either a Greatest Gains or Highest Performing school.
“I want to congratulate all of the award winning schools across our state, as well as the students and teachers who have worked tirelessly toward these accomplishments,” said Gov. Deal.
The school awards, developed by GOSA and approved by the State Board of Education, are part of Georgia’s Single Statewide Accountability System. Highest Performing schools must earn a three-year average College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) Achievement Score that ranks in at least the 93rd percentile. Greatest Gains schools must earn a three-year average CCRPI Progress Score that ranks in at least the 93rd percentile. As a Gold Level Greatest Gains school, Eastside’s CCRPI Progress Score ranks in at least the 97th percentile.
“This recognition affirms the work of our students and staff members over the previous three years,” said Eastside High School principal Jeff Cher. “The accomplishment confirms that sustained, comprehensive school improvement is possible with a team of dedicated professionals who want to make a positive difference in the lives of students. We are extremely proud of this honor.”
“Congratulations to our Eastside students, teachers, leaders, support staff, and parents,” said Newton County School System superintendent Samantha Fuhrey. “The continued success of our students is a testament to our Eastside team’s commitment to improving student outcomes. I am extremely proud of this designation as it has confirmed Eastside High School’s position among the very best in Georgia. The Eastside team is very deserving of this honor—they have worked hard over the last several years to be the very best, and they are well on their way!”
