In the First Leg of the I-20 Cup at the RYSA Soccer Complex on May 7th, the Georgia Revolution FC (GA Revs) won 2-0 against the Birmingham Hammers. The game was a tight contest, but with a Man-of-the-Match performance by Nick Wells (goal and assist) and an impressive performance by Center Back Ibrahim Faye, the Revs were unbeatable Saturday night.
In the first 10 minutes of the game, the Hammers applied heavy pressure on the Revolution’s back line. However, the Hammers were unable to capitalize on their early momentum. In a counter attack, Midfielder Nick Wells, ran at the Hammers defense and played a perfectly weighted ball into the path of Carlos Mendoza who finished with a shot past the Hammers’ Goalkeeper. The GA Revs continued to apply pressure and before the end of the first half, Nick Wells scored a fantastic individual goal after beating two defenders and slotting a shot past the goalkeeper. The GA Revs went into the second half with a two goal lead. During the second half, the Hammers came out again looking for a goal. Yet, they were unable to break down the Revs’ defense with Center Back Ibrahim Faye continuing his amazing performance.
