Five local Rockdale County Allstate agents helped spread safe driving messages to Rockdale County teenagers in July 2016. Moses Cowart, Bob Foster, Tamara Gatson, Sonja Harrison and Stacey Randolph volunteered at Heritage High School during Back to School Open House and asked teens to pledge to “X the Text” this school year.

texting while drivingStudents, parents, teachers and administrators took a pledge to put their cell phone down and focus on the road as part of Allstate’s national X the TXT campaign. Texting is one of the most dangerous distractions facing drivers today and 49 percent of teens admit to being extremely distracted by texting and instant messaging while driving, while 82 percent of teens still say they use their cell phone behind the wheel.

Students vowed by adding their thumb prints to a pledge banner as a public commitment not to text and drive. After the event, the Allstate agents presented the banner to Principal Fowler and all assistant principals and athletic directors at Heritage High School. The banner will be displayed for the entire student body to view during the 2016-2017 school term as an important reminder of the “X the Text” pledge.

“We’re proud of these local Allstate agency owners for the work they do to serve customers in Rockdale County,” said Steve Shearod of Allstate. “These local business owners are committed to reaching as many customers and local residents as possible with these messages to keep our roads safer.”

Since its launch, more than one million people have made the pledge and X the TXT pledge events have taken place all over the country. Upon pledging, participants receive thumb bands with the words TXTNG KLLS to wear as a daily reminder of their commitment. Family Pledge Cards are passed out to everyone who makes the pledge to help get a conversation started at home and encourage families to commit to safer, focused driving.
