Eastminster School May Be Down, But Certainly Not Out

Local private school, Eastminster School is forced to restructure for the 2015 – 2016 school year despite efforts from parents, faculty and the community to remain open. Regardless of the school’s financial status, the faculty remains positive and committed to the education of their students. The school held its second semester learning expedition where students showcase their work on special projects in late January.

Studies on forces and motion study, famous Americans, the solar system, celebrations around the world, and colonial America were presented by students in detailed exhibitions. The community was invited to the learning expedition to see presentations by Eastminster School students from Kindergarten to 4th Grade where students presented projects in unique ways.

Parents praise Eastminster for helping to build a foundation of learning in the Rockdale community. “Because of this school, I watched my child grow into a hardworking, straight-A student. She blossomed into a proficient trombone player, played on many sports teams and came out of her shell to enjoy her love of music and theater. She has been loved unconditionally and mentored to believe in herself in a world where it’s difficult to be a self-confident, teenage girl. I’m confident that all our Owls will go on to do great things. I pray for strength and guidance for all of us as we endeavor to face the changes before us. Thank you, Eastminster family, for the invaluable, unforgettable experience,” shares parent and advocate Kelly Cowan.

Headmaster Blake Craft wrote in an announcement that, “Eastminster will continue to provide students with our current services and will finish out the 2014-15 school year. The staff has been notified of the situation and parents should make backup plans for current students to attend a different school next year in case Eastminster is forced to close. That said, there may be a group of committed parents who would like to see Eastminster School emerge from restructuring and continue as a going enterprise. What the terms of that future would be are impossible to predict because they depend on the restructuring the court decides. If the debt load is restructured favorably, it may be possible for Eastminster School to emerge as a strong, viable institution.

Eastminster School provides the highest quality academic education to motivated and disciplined students of any race or religious affiliation from the East Metro Atlanta area, emphasizing every student’s social, physical, and spiritual well-being. Eastminster School’s first graduating class of three students were offered over $750,000 in merit scholarships.
