Conyers, Georgia – Rotary, a global network of community volunteers, is one of the largest and most influential international humanitarian service organizations worldwide. Founded in Chicago on February 23, 1905, today over 1.2 million members belong to 33,000 Rotary clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas.
On March 17, 2015, the Rotary clubs of Conyers and Rockdale County participated in the Saint Patrick’s Day festivities to highlight the good works that the clubs are doing in the Conyers-Rockdale Community.
According to Thua G. Barlay, Rotary Club of Conyers President, “we, as Rotarians, were excited to showcase our impact on the community through all the projects we undertake, charities we support, and scholarships we give.”
“We were encouraged by the Rotary International President, Gary Huang, to show our community what we do, so that there would be no doubt that if our clubs were not present, we would be missed,” says Alain Bouzoubaa, the Rotary Club of Rockdale County President.
The clubs’ projects include Empty Stocking Fund, Hands Across Rockdale, Handicap Wheelchair Ramps, Light House Village Garden, Read Across America, Read for the Record, and Salvation Bell Ringing.
In addition, the clubs were also recognized by the two local governments. The Rockdale County Board of Commissioners presented them with a proclamation at their meeting on March 17, 2015 and the Conyers City Council did the same at their meeting on March 18, 2015.
Rotary members, as volunteers, conduct projects to address today’s humanitarian challenges, including illiteracy, disease, hunger, poverty, lack of clean water, and environmental concerns while encouraging high standards in all vocations. Rotary members strive to build goodwill and peace, and provide humanitarian service in their communities and throughout the world.
