College and Career Ready Performance Index Released for 2014-15

eMetro News Featured

school-busOn May 3, 2016, State School Superintendent Richard Woods released the Georgia College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) that measures schools and school districts on a 100 point scale. These scores are based on data from the 2014-15 school year.

The state’s average score for each level is:

State Average – 75.5

Elementary School – 76.8

Middle School – 71.7

High School – 76.1

Rockdale County Public Schools’ results points are:

District – 76.5

Elementary School – 80

Middle School – 71.2

High School – 75.1

“We are pleased that overall our district average remains above the state,” says Superintendent Autry. “Our high schools have significantly increased to close the gap with the state average, our middle schools remain consistent with the state average, and our elementary schools continue to be above the state. The increase at the high school level is largely due to the considerable increase in graduation rate at each of our high schools. The CCRPI accountability system measures changed for 2014-15 and it has been communicated that they will change again for the current school year. We will celebrate our successes and identify our challenges as we take a closer look at these results from the last school year. I appreciate all of our teachers, students, administrators and support staff who continue to focus on excellence in teaching and learning, regardless of the changing assessments and accountability measures.”

The Georgia Department of Education explains that CCRPI is Georgia’s statewide accountability system, implemented in 2012 to replace No Child Left Behind’s Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) measurement, after the U.S. Department of Education granted Georgia’s waiver from NCLB. It measures schools and school districts on a 100-point scale based on multiple indicators of performance, helping parents and the public better understand how schools are performing in a more comprehensive manner than the pass/fail system previously in place under AYP.

Because of changes to the way CCRPI is calculated – including but not limited to a new assessment system, changes in weights, and recalculated performance targets – a direct comparison between 2014 and 2015 CCRPI scores is not possible.

The GaDOE also released Student Growth Model data for 2014-15. This is a metric designed to help educators, parents, and other stakeholders better understand and analyze the progress students make year to year. It provides a deeper look at student growth by school and school district, providing answers to questions such as, “Did students in this school grow more or less than academically similar students across the state?” or “Are students growing as much in math as in English Language Arts?”
