On the extreme right is the major city of Chengdu in western China. The green coloration here indicates elevations up to 3,281 feet (1000 meters). Proceeding westerly from Chengdu, the Tibetan Plateau begins, with light brown representing elevations between 3,281 and 16,404 feet (1,000 to 5,000 meters). The yellow indicates mountains above 16,404 feet. Kalsang Monastery is situated in rugged topography about 230 miles west of Chengdu.
