Just when you think you’ve got it figured out, here comes the shank monster, the hook pirate, the slice vampire, or the dreaded yips ghost. You never know when or where they may jump out of the woods. The one thing you can count on is just as soon as you think you’ve got this game figured out, one or even all the above makes a grand appearance. It doesn’t have to be Halloween. They have no seasonal prejudice.
Figuring out which haunted character is the worse could make for quite the debate. If you ask me, the yip ghost is the scarcest. It seems to be the one that really make you question your sanity.
Don’t be scared. Yeah right! There’s nothing like the feeling you get when you miss a three footer until the very next hole when you have the very same three footer you just missed. That’s why I love playing in the Canup Invitational where you putt everything out. No gimmies, as we call it. It really shows when you’re used to your buddies giving you the two and three footers and then you’re required to putt them out. (Scary!)
The Canup Tournament this year is in Maggie Valley, North Carolina. The golf course is short but no push over, and the views are just breathtaking. It’s so pretty in the fall. The weather should be perfect, course is plush, greens are great, and like I said, the views are to die for. Even when you miss that short putt, you don’t care. Not!
There’s nothing worse than playing in pristine conditions where you’ve looked so forward to play and then stink it up. Well, this year I’m determined to forget about what may be lying in the woods this Halloween season. I want to come home with the trophy ($$$) or at least a lot of fond memories playing with my good buddies. Now that is a scary thought. Stay tuned.
Till next tee time
