CONYERS, Ga. – Rockdale County government commends Keep Conyers-Rockdale Beautiful (KCRB) on its ‘green year’ close out. Finishing the year on a high note as Keep Georgia Beautiful Governor’s Circle and Keep America Beautiful President’s Circle Award recipients, KCRB held several environmental stewardship events in 2015 with the goal of educating the public about the importance of litter prevention, beautification, waste minimization, and the benefits of improved livability.
In mid October, the County participated in the 2015 Rivers Alive Cleanup. More than 200 volunteers, including 93 youth, from local schools, church groups, civic organizations, scout troops, small families, and individuals cleaned up local waterways, parks, illegal dumpsites, schools, subdivisions, roadways, Randy Poynter Lake, and other locations. The cleanup removed old tires, several thousand pounds of litter and covered about six miles of waterways.
In September, KCRB hosted a county-wide Recycling Month featuring a cell phone recycling drive and electronics recycling and paper shredding event. Rockdale residents took advantage of these events to clear their homes of unneeded or unused cell phones, electronics and paper. This event diverted eight tons of paper and around 12,000 pounds of metal, plastic, glass, computer housing and peripheral equipment from local landfills.
Additionally, several locations across Rockdale were spruced up with the help of a record number of more than 350 volunteers in April as part of the Great American Cleanup. KCRB, families, individuals, businesses, schools and more than 20 community groups removed 18 tires and 4.7 tons of trash in the County. Also in April, Rivers Alive awarded to KCRB for the first time its Government Partner of the Year Award at the Rivers Alive Awards Luncheon in Atlanta. The award recognizes KCRB’s commitment in cultivating essential partnerships with organizations such as Rockdale Water Resources and ESG that regular support cleanup events.
Through public-private partnerships and strategic alliances with citizens, businesses and government, KCRB’s efforts continue to motivate hundreds of volunteers each year to clean up, beautify and improve Rockdale County, thereby creating safer and more livable environments.
