Drive for Your Community at Courtesy Ford and Support Breast Cancer Awareness

eMetro News Featured Newton Rockdale

ford-warriorsinpinkCourtesy Ford is going pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and holding a “Drive for Your Community” to raise funds for the Kimberley Chance Atkins Foundation (KCAF). Come for a test drive on October 8th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and help Ford raise $6,000 to fight breast cancer. Ford will donate $20 per test drive. The event will be fun for the whole family with free food, bounce houses and entertainment.

This year is especially heartfelt for Courtesy Ford and its staff because one of their own has recently been affected by breast cancer. Peggy Mason is the warranty administrator at Courtesy Ford and has been a part of their family for over 24 years.

Peggy Mason will be celebrated as one of this year’s Wall of Hope survivors by the KCAF. She was nominated by a fellow Courtesy Ford employee, Wanda Welch. As a local survivor, her picture will be shown on the Wall of Hope at Piedmont Newton where she will be celebrated for her strength and inspiration to others.

Each year, the Wall of Hope at Rockdale Medical Center recognizes 12 breast cancer survivors in Rockdale County and the Wall of Hope at Piedmont Newton recognizes 12 breast cancer survivors in Newton County. Photographs of the breast cancer survivors offer hope and inspiration to women facing uncertain and daunting diagnoses.

Like many breast cancer survivors, the diagnosis and subsequent ordeal was not easy for Peggy. She had found a small knot the size of a finger. Doctors initially thought it was a clogged milk duct. But after one and a half years, it grew. It was then detected through a mammogram and determined to be breast cancer.

Peggy recounted her thoughts, “I didn’t have time for this! The diagnosis really changed my attitude.” She continued, “I thought to myself that I am going to do this and get through it. You really have to change the channel in your head.”

Peggy had surgery in March 2015 and is now in remission.

Courtesy Ford is proud to select the KCAF as their charity of choice during the “Drive for Your Community” event. This event is in conjunction with Ford’s Warriors in Pink and is the second year that they have done the test drives. Their goal is to raise $6,000 for the KCAF to fight breast cancer. Last year, Ford raised just under $6,000 and they feel they can reach that goal this year with 300 drivers each getting a $20 test drive.

Come to the event for a test drive. You can choose to test drive a Mustang, Explorer, Escape, F-150 or Fusion. Only one person per address can qualify for the test drive and you must be 21 years or older. You will need a copy of a valid driver’s license and insurance card. In addition, you must complete a form and survey. People with a valid test drive will also receive a t-shirt and gift bag.

There is no need to reserve your spot to get a test drive. Come to Courtesy Ford on October 8, 2016, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. They are located at 1636 Dogwood Drive in Conyers, Georgia. For more information about Courtesy Ford’s vehicles, visit courtesyatlanta.com. To learn more about the KCAF, visit Kimatkins.net. Also make sure to visit the Rockdale Medical Center (East Tower) and Newton Piedmont during the month of October to view the Wall of Hope.
