5K, Masquerade, Parade, Food Festival and More!
Join Us for Mardi Gras January 30th- February 6th!
Rockdale Emergency Relief (RER) and Phoenix Pass are thrilled to be working together to bring an authentic Mardi Gras Celebration to Conyers and Rockdale County in the form of our first annual “Georgia’s Party Gras” from January 30 through February 6, 2016!
RER and Phoenix Pass have a long history of working together to meet the human service needs of our community. RER provides food, clothing, and emergency financial assistance to individuals and families in need. Phoenix Pass provides transitional housing to homeless women and children. RER, founded in 1967, actually incubated Phoenix Pass in the years when it grew from concept to execution to operation, so when the opportunity came along to work together on a major community event that could also serve as a joint fundraiser for our two organizations, they both jumped at the chance.
Early in 2015, inspired by the burgeoning film industry in our area, they began to envision the possibility of transforming Olde Town into a slice of New Orleans or Mobile for a family-friendly Mardi Gras parade and street festival, incorporating Cajun and creole cuisine, live jazz and zydeco music, and all the best of what such festivals entail. Over time their plans expanded to include a 5K Race on Saturday, January 30, and a Masquerade Ball on Friday, February 5. All of the proceeds for the events will be split evenly between RER and Phoenix Pass, both Georgia 501c3 not-for-profit organizations.
While they see this as a great opportunity to raise funds for their two non-profits, they are even more excited about the idea of giving back to the community that supports them by creating a legacy event that draws people from the east metro Atlanta area and beyond to share in a series of events that will benefit local Conyers/Rockdale business owners while also drawing the whole community together in fellowship and celebration!
