(Conyers, GA) United States Military veteran and New York Police Department (NYPD) retiree Sean Veerapen presented an American flag to the Conyers Police Department on Friday, September 11, 2015.
This particular flag and owner have a history of service to our nation. Sean Veerapen moved his family to Conyers just one year ago in August of 2014. Mr. Veerapen is a retired NYPD detective who responded to Ground Zero on September 11, 2001. His wife Sheila, a retired NYPD officer, was also on scene that day.
Mr. Veerapen served in the United States Air Force Reserve in 2011 when he purchased an American Flag to be flown during a mission in Afghanistan. This flag was given to the 74th Expeditionary Flying Squadron A-10C and flew on September 11, 2011.
“We are honored Mr. Veerapen wishes to make this presentation to the department,” Chief Gene Wilson said. “We will fly the flag proudly at half-staff on Friday, Patriot Day, before encasing it for permanent display here at police headquarters.”
