This is the home where America’s founding father George Washington stayed in 1751 at the age of 19 and it is a well preserved garrison that was the largest British military facility in the Caribbean. Barbados was one of the first economies to utilize slave labor for the production of sugar and rum around 1640 and today there is a rich fusion of African and European heritage. Excellent quality sugar and rum are still produced across the island. With many beautiful plantation houses and stunning ancient churches, Barbados has a rich and fascinating history.
