By: Sen. Tonya Anderson (D – Lithonia)
Another week has come and gone at the capitol, and things have really started to get busy under the Gold Dome.
Last week, Senator Tonya Anderson sponsored Senate Resolution 43 honoring the life and memory of Bishop Eddie Long. She knows first-hand the impact Bishop Long had on the community and the state of Georgia as a whole. As a devout man of God and friend to many, it is easy to see how Bishop Long became one of the most influential spiritual leaders of our generation. It was an honor to sponsor a resolution honoring and remembering the life of this great leader.
This week, her colleagues and her introduced a bill that would help low-income families receive affordable and reliable child care services. If passed, Senate Bill 97 would allow parents who are enrolled in the Child Care and Parent Services (CAPS) program to receive child care assistance for two years, instead of the current one year limit. Parents who are enrolled in job training or an educational program do not always have the income or time to provide the best for their children. By allowing them two years of assistance, the bill ensures the best opportunity for in-need parents to better their lives and provide for their children.
February is a special time in the United States as we recognize Black History Month. Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements and a special time for recognizing the pivotal role of African-Americans in U.S. history. Senator Anderson knows that she stands on the shoulders of so many men and women who have given so much to our communities and she understands what a privilege it is to be representing you all here at the Senate.
We now have just 28 legislative days left of the 2023 legislative session. The Senator looks forward to next week’s session and will keep you all informed of what’s happening here at the Capitol.
If you are ever at the Capitol, please stop by her office. She would love the opportunity to talk to you and hear your comments and concerns, after all, you’re the reason I’m here. Thank you for the opportunity to serve you at the state capitol!
