The number of children that are entering foster care around our country is staggering. Newton and Walton counties are no exemption. In July 2013, Newton County had 92 children in foster care. Currently there are 190 children who are abused and neglected and the court has deemed their family’s circumstances unsafe for a child to return home. Walton has 120 children in care, which is double the number from a year ago.

With numbers staggering, the time to act is now. How can you help? Children need a voice in court. Becoming a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer allows you to be that voice for a child. A CASA staff member trains a community volunteer how to advocate for the best interest of a foster care child.
