eMetro News Featured Newton Rockdale

american flagOpening night of the 188th Camp Meeting of Salem Campgrounds in Conyers/Newton County at 3940 Salem Road in Covington, GA  begins Friday, July 8th. Included is the schedule of events for that special opening night to honor our veterans – those who currently serve, those who have served in the past and those who sacrificed their lives so that we may enjoy the freedom we have today.

This is a first for Salem Campground to honor our veterans.  It is an honor that the leaders of this traditional worship adventure have been so receptive with ideas to honor and recognition of our veterans.

For the Walk of Heroes/Veterans War Memorial (WOH) Board of Directors and those who represent WOH with an official golf shirt and name tag, please wear those the night of the event and we will sit together as a group.  If you elect to have dinner that night, there are seatings at 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm. It as a must that you make reservations. Only 102 seats are available and they fill up fast. Food is their famous fried chicken night, served family style. Reserve with Kim Hicks at 770-633-0886 and indicate that you are with the Walk of Heroes group. Cost is $11.00  per person. Deadline for reservations is Tuesday, July 5th.

The agenda:

6:00 or 7:00 pm – Seating for dinner – Fried chicken, family style – $11

7:45 pm – Conyers First Methodist Church presents a 15 minute patriotic concert “Heal Our Lands”  under the direction of Steve Hester, Minister of Music at CFUMC

8:00 pm – Opening service with Dr. Bill Purch, Senior Pastor of Lawrenceville First United Methodist Church.

Preceding the opening service the Rockdale County Fire & Rescue Color Guard coordinated by  Scott McCord will provide the Presentation of Colors, followed by Pledge of Allegiance, followed by the congregation singing the National Anthem. Following  the retirement of the Colors will be recognition of all the veterans in attendance.

During the service there will be some patriotic songs included with the congregation songs.
