Come to Courtesy Ford on Saturday, February 18, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to take a test drive and help raise funds for kids with Muscular Dystrophy (MD) to experience their “best week of the year”. Courtesy Ford anticipates over 200 people will take a test drive at their dealership, located at 1636 Dogwood Drive, SE in Conyers, Georgia. For each test drive, Courtesy Ford will donate $20 to send kids to MDA Summer Camp.

This year will be Kyle’s seventh year attending camp. “I am looking forward to swimming and climbing the rock wall. When swimming, I can easily move around in the water like everyone else. And the rock wall will be fun and challenging,” said Kyle. “Summer camp gives me a week to be a typical kid where everyone is like me and I get to participate in everything. It gives me independence.”

The MDA summer camp is an annual experience where kids with muscular diseases experience their “best week of the year” free of charge. The local camp is held in July 2023 in Rutledge, GA where 110 kids from ages 6 to 17, along with their families, are anticipated to attend.

During the camp, kids such as Kyle will be able to participate in activities that defy their limits. They do this with the help of counselors who are assigned to each child, and with adaptations specifically needed for children with muscular disorders to do things they otherwise wouldn’t be able to do.

The pool party is a favorite of Alejandro, who is 13 years old. He loves being able to play with light sabers in the Star Wars themed pool party and being able to go on the slide with the help of a counselor. “At the camp, I get to socialize with kids who have the same needs as me and be more independent,” said Alejandro.

MDA is fighting to free individuals from the harmful effects of muscular dystrophy, ALS, and other related life-threatening diseases. These diseases take away the freedoms from kids and adults by weakening their muscle strength and limiting their mobility. Symptoms can show up in children as early as two and one-half years of age. Your test drive will help raise money to send children to the annual MDA Summer Camp. The goal is to raise $4,000 to send two children to summer camp.
