Shelli Says…Unsolved Mysteries

I remember enjoying a show awhile back; Robert Stack hosted it called Unsolved Mysteries. It used a documentary format to profile real-life mysteries. The idea was to broadcast this show in hopes of solving unsolved crimes or mysteries. The show could get a bit strange and even gory, but most of the time it just held a mystery element that was interesting. The show was remade several times with reruns still broadcast today. I ran across it not long ago and it got me to thinking about unsolved mysteries that we deal with on a regular basis.

unsolved mysteryLaundry, for example, has the unsolved mystery, “Where did that sock go?” Is there a sock hell or is it just a way to make you crazy? You put two socks in the wash and one sock comes out of the dryer. My answer to that dilemma is not to wear socks.

Another such mystery is at the checkout line. Somewhere there is a code that whichever line you get in will most definitely be the slowest, even if you are the only one in it. It never fails – just go to Walmart and see for yourself.

Another mystery that I believe most women can relate to…men and the kitchen. I think it is not only a mystery but a genetic kind of thing. It is amazing that someone can open a refrigerator full of food, usually in order and lined up according to product and size, and asks, “What is there to eat?” Or even better, he opens up said fridge and asks, “What is in this container?” while the person being asked is down the hall in another room. But, in all fairness women, typically the person being asked, do have eyes in the back of their heads and are pretty much mind readers. So I guess it works out.

While we are in the kitchen, shall we talk about the dishwasher? That can really be a scary appliance. I am under the impression that some type of creature lives in there and anytime you open the door to put a dish in it could bite your hand or grab you and take you into an unknown universe, possibly where the vacuum cleaner lives.

To that end, what would life be like without a few mysteries? I think it gives us all something to think about and certainly something that keeps us on our toes. I think also it makes things interesting, less boring, and frankly for some of us, something to talk about with a few laughs along the way.
