Non-profit senior organization to honor loved ones with paper hearts, meal sponsorship
Senior Connections, a local non-profit organization providing home and community-based services to seniors in metro Atlanta and middle Georgia, is building a “Wall of Hearts” as part of its February fundraising campaign. For each meal sponsored in its Meals on Wheels program (valued at $6.00), a paper heart with the name of the donor and whom they are honoring with the donation will be placed on a wall at Senior Connections’ corporate office in Chamblee. The goal is to collect 1,936 hearts during the month-long campaign – 44 hearts for each of Senior Connections’ 44 years helping seniors “age in place.”
“February is a month devoted to the human expression of love, when we think of the romantic, secular and spiritual forms of the emotion,” said Debra Furtado, CEO of Senior Connections. “What better time to honor a loved one who made a difference in your life than to place a heart in memory of them on our Wall of Hearts. Each heart represents a person who is loved but it also means a meal and safety for so many of our senior neighbors.”
Donation forms and paper hearts will be mailed out 1 February; donors are asked to complete the heart and return it with a donation. Extra donations can be made, and additional names written on the back of the heart; extra hearts will be completed and displayed on the wall. Donors can also visit seniorconnectionsatl.com to give a heart or call 770.455.7602 and have a volunteer fill out a heart to hang on The Wall of Hearts.
The campaign runs 1 February to 16 March 2023. Followers can track on Facebook the growth of The Wall of Hearts, which will be displayed in Senior Connections’ office throughout March in conjunction with the national March for Meals sponsored by Meals on Wheels Association of America.
