Serious readers from Rockdale County Public Schools elementary and middle schools went head-to-head in the annual Rockdale County Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl competition on Jan. 28 at Rockdale Career Academy. The students were quizzed game-show style for their knowledge of a pre-designated set of books.
Honey Creek Elementary’s team took home the trophy for elementary schools. Lorraine Elementary’s team placed second and the Peek’s Chapel team placed third. Edwards Middle School’s team won the trophy for middle schools with a high score of 400. Davis Middle School’s team placed second and Conyers Middle’s team came in third.
First and second place teams went on to the regional competition at Clayton State University on Feb. 4 but did not advance to the divisional competition.
