Rockdale Medical Center (RMC) announced a $750,000 renovation to its inpatient radiology department. The project will focus on upgrading one of three computed tomography (CT) scanners, as well as an interior renovation. All CT imaging services will remain open during this project, which is estimated to be completed in March 2023.
“This is truly an exciting time for Rockdale Medical Center, the community, and the entire region we serve. The upgrade to state-of-the-art equipment and renovation of our inpatient radiology department demonstrates our commitment to investing in the hospital to enhance services and meet the needs of our community,” said Cliff Wilson, Rockdale Medical Center Assistant Administrator.
The hospital is upgrading the North Tower CT equipment to a 64-slice GE Revolution EVO CT scanner which provides highly detailed images of soft tissue, bones, blood vessels, and organs. The upgrade will include adaptive statistical iterative reconstruction (ASIR) software, a radiation reduction software.
According to studies, ASIR software can decrease the amount of radiation exposure a patient receives during a CT scan by automatically lowering the dose of radiation needed based upon criteria such as clinical task, patient size, anatomical location, and clinical practice. This allows CT technologists to keep the radiation dose as low as reasonably achievable and still produce high quality scans.
“This new GE 64 slice CT with ASIR software and updated room renovation will provide for greater efficiency and patient comfort, and will allow RMC to enhance our CT imaging services for our inpatient and ED patients,” said Wilson. “These capital investments continue to support our mission of Making Communities Healthier”.
