Rockdale Medical Center continues to focus on healthy living in October with multiple activities in the community. On October 1, 2016, they provided free medical screenings at the Fall Festival and Health Fair at the Monastery of the Holy Spirit. Throughout the year, the hospital sponsors the Kimberly Chance Atkins Foundation, and in October, celebrates the KCAF Wall of Hope. Other activities during the month include the Rockdale Rockers’ Lunch & Learn at the hospital and free blood pressure screenings at the Olde Town Festival, October 22, 2016.
As an annual participant at the Monastery’s Fall Festival and Health Fair, the hospital returned this year to offer free medical screenings that included blood pressure screening and blood work. Medical screenings and blood work are important because they can help catch potential health problems in their early stages when they can be managed most effectively.
During National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the hospital and the Kimberly Chance Atkins Foundation will celebrate survivors of breast cancer while increasing awareness with the annual Wall of Hope. Each year 12 breast cancer survivors are selected in the Rockdale community and honored with their portraits on The Wall of Hope. This is an inspiration to survivors, people diagnosed with breast cancer, and others who have been affected by breast cancer. The Wall also helps to increase awareness about how early detection through mammograms can help save lives. Throughout the year, residents from Rockdale County and surrounding communities can view the Wall of Hope in the hospital’s East Tower, located at 1412 Milstead Avenue in Conyers, Georgia.
On October 20, 2016, the Rockdale Rockers, a social club for individuals aged 55 and older, will have their monthly Lunch & Learn at the hospital from 11:30 am to 1 pm. The club focuses on education about local services that can make our community healthier. October’s topic will focus on the healing power of oxygen. Dr. Brian Allen, medical director of the Rockdale Medical Wound and Hyperbaric Treatment Center, will educate the group on the importance of proper wound care and the advanced oxygen therapies being used at Rockdale Medical Center.
On October 22, 2016, the hospital will have a booth at the 36th Annual Olde Town Fall Festival where they will offer free blood pressure screenings. The Fall Festival, which is the longest-running festival in Conyers, will be held at 901 Railroad Street from 10 am until 5 pm and admission is free.
