The Georgia Local Government Personnel Association (GLGPA) has awarded the Rockdale County Department of Human Resources for the first time its 2014 Agency Achievement Award for Excellence in Human Resources Management.

Each year, GLGPA recognizes two human resources programs – a small agency (under 500 employees) and a large agency (more than 500 employees). Rockdale County is the recipient of the association’s Large Agency Award. The award spotlights the overall quality, contributions and accomplishments of Georgia’s top-performing human resources programs.

“Recognition is always nice, but it is very special when your efforts are recognized by your peers,” Human Resources Director Darryl Bowie said. “I am personally appreciative to the Rockdale County HR staff. I have been in HR management for over 25 years and the team at Rockdale County is as good as it gets.

“This team is tirelessly dedicated to establishing our department as a model for excellence. We realize these efforts would not be possible without the support of employees, managers and our Commissioners.”

On Nov. 25, the Board of Commissioners publicly lauded the department for this special achievement.  “This type of recognition is a huge example of effective leadership and management style moving this County forward,” CEO and Chairman Richard Oden said. “To be number one in the state of Georgia at this level is worth celebrating, and I commend HR for their commitment to serving our County employees.”

Since 1975, GLGPA has promoted professional personnel management practices throughout local government in Georgia. With 348 members from cities, counties and agencies across the state, GLGPA provides a forum to exchange ideas and accomplishments and share issues affecting human resources programs in Georgia. The association also provides continuing education opportunities to its membership and encourages the establishment of professional personnel management systems in local government.
