Several Programs and Events Planned in Rockdale County throughout April

rockdale countyIn celebration of National County Government Month (NCGM), Rockdale County government joins the National Association of Counties (NACo) and other county governments across the country to showcase programs and services that raise public awareness and understanding about the roles and responsibilities of County government.

This year’s theme is Safe and Secure Counties.

Since 1991, NACo has encouraged counties across the nation to actively promote county government programs and services. To commemorate NCGM, Rockdale encourages citizens to take advantage of essential services and programs and attend events in April that highlight the NCGM theme.

Below are NCGM programs and events in Rockdale.

Tues, April 19, 10 a.m.

Strategic Planning Survey Results Presentation

Rockdale County Assembly Hall

901 Main St., Conyers, 30012

The Rockdale County Board of Commissioners (BOC) will present to citizens the results and findings of the County’s recent strategic planning survey. The County designed the survey to assist the BOC in developing a strategic plan that will mirror the needs and desires of citizens, businesses and Rockdale stakeholders. The BOC will share survey findings, which focused on key issues such as health and public safety, infrastructure, economic development, parks and natural resources and civic involvement.

Thursday, April 21, 6 -7:30 p.m.

Notary Training

J.P. Carr Services Community Room

981 Taylor St., Conyers, 30012

Hosted by Rockdale County Clerk of Courts Ruth A. Wilson, in collaboration with the Georgia Superior Court Clerks Cooperative Authority (GSCCCA), the free training is available to current Notaries Public and those with an interest in becoming one. The training will address basic notary procedures and legal guidelines for fulfilling the duties of a Notary Public in the State of Georgia. Registration deadline is April 18. To register, visit www.rockdaleclerk.com and click on the Notary Training link in the WHAT’S HAPPENING section.

Sat., April 23, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Great American Cleanup

Pine Log Park

1500 Ga. Highway 138, Conyers, 30012

The half-day event, which Keep Conyers-Rockdale Beautiful (KCRB) hosts in partnership with the City of Conyers and Rockdale County, encourages civic and neighborhood groups, businesses, Boy and Girl Scout troops, churches, youth groups, individuals, and families to pick up garbage, tires and other debris around the community, and teaches youth about the importance of litter prevention and recycling. Participants will be provided cleaning supplies – garbage bags, gloves and brightly-colored safety vests – while available for free. They will also receive free food and a T-shirt for participating, also while supplies last. Registration is strongly encouraged by April 15 at www.rockdalecountyga.gov.

Throughout the Month

Rockdale County CodeRED Awareness Campaign

Throughout April, Rockdale County encourages citizens to sign up for CodeRED, a high-speed notification system that delivers time-sensitive messages via voice, email and text to targeted areas or the entire County during emergency situations, inclement weather or disasters. To sign up for CodeRED, visit www.rockdalecountyga.gov and click on the CodeRED icon on the Community Partners page. The County also encourages citizens to sign up for CodeRED via links posted during April on the County’s social media pages: www.twitter.com/RockdaleGov and www.facebook.com/RockdaleGov.

Storm Drain Stenciling Program

The Rockdale County Stormwater Utility encourages citizens and volunteers to support the Storm Drain Stenciling Program to keep County waterways clean through the labeling of storm drains to prevent illegal dumping. Volunteers will be trained before going out and will receive stenciling kits and instructions on how to label storm water drains with decals that discourage illegal dumping.

Civic and neighborhood groups, businesses, churches, youth groups, individuals and families are encouraged to participate, which can possibly qualify Rockdale residents for a 5 percent Watershed Stewardship Stormwater Utility bill credit and community service hours for youth. For more information, contact the Stormwater Utility at 770-278-7124 or [email protected]

For more information about local National County Government Month events, call 770-278-7050 or visit www.rockdalecountyga.gov.
