Volunteers had a vested interested in making Conyers-Rockdale a cleaner, greener and more thriving community clean local parks, schools, neighborhoods, roadways and waterways through their participation in the 2016 Great American Cleanup (GAC). Keep-Conyers Rockdale Beautiful (KCRB) hosted the half-day event on April 23 at Pine Log Park in Conyers. The cleanup removed 5.02 tons, or the equivalent 10,040 pounds, of garbage and at least 80 tires from locations and dumpsites across the County.
A record number of more 525 volunteers representing nearly 35 groups from local schools, church groups, homeowner and civic organizations, scout troops, small families, and individuals donated their time.
As a thank you, volunteers received a free BBQ lunch that Rockdale Water Resources and ESG Operations donated, and members of the Rockdale Fraternal Order of Firefighters and Rockdale Firefighters Charity Fund graciously donated their time by grilling for the event. Rockdale County Fire-Rescue also was on hand to provide a fire safety education program and sign up those interested in the joining the Community Emergency Response Team.
In addition, KCRB named the two largest cleanup teams, Team Barlay and Kingdom Builders Covenant Church, the 2016 GAC Co-Champions with 41 members each on its respective teams out cleaning that day.
Through public-private partnerships and strategic alliances with citizens, businesses and government, KCRB’s efforts each year motivate hundreds of volunteers to clean up and improve Rockdale County, thereby creating safer, more livable environments.
