The 7th Annual Race Against Violence (RAV) demonstrated why is it becoming a premier race in Rockdale County, drawing a record number of participants, registrants, and sponsors. The race raised approximately $25,000 to benefit the Rockdale County Task Force Against Family Violence and Project Renewal, the local shelter for victims of family violence.

Judge Nancy Bills of the Rockdale County State Court and Chair of the Task Force stated that it is wonderful to see the event grown to more than 400 registrants and over 60 sponsors. Craig McCullough, member of the Olde Town Runners, offered that the RAV has evolved into a great event due to the pre-race party, organization, and the fast, flat course that is certified as a Peachtree Road Race qualifier.

The events began with the traditional “Pre-Race Party” on Friday at Las Flores restaurant allowing participants the opportunity to pick up their race packets. The race was held the following morning at the Conyers First United Methodist Church with perfect temperatures for a road race.

Judge Bills wishes to give special thanks to the Kappa Sigma Fraternity for not only being the RAV’s Title Sponsor, but also for the numerous volunteers they provided on race day. She stated it was wonderful to see companies such as Toyota Forklifts of Atlanta encouraging corporate participation with over 65 participants. Judge Bills offered that this race is an excellent example of companies promoting healthy activities in conjunction with their corporate wellness initiatives.

The date for next year’s RAV is October 21, 2024. For more information about the RAV, go to www.raceagainstviolence.com or contact Derek Marchman at 678-938-5799.
