Slacking off on that New Year’s resolution? Lace up your shoes and hit the road for Rockdale Career Academy’s 6th annual Strides for Education 5K Run/1-Mile Fun Run on Saturday, Feb. 6, from 10 a.m. – noon.
“The annual event exhibits the value of our students and the project-based curriculum taught at RCA,” said Dayo Adebiyi, Sports and Entertainment Marketing instructor at RCA. “While our students from the Sports and Entertainment Marketing pathway are leading the production of this year’s event, many of RCA’s other career pathways are well represented. Students from the culinary pathway will provide refreshments and snacks to runners, our public safety students will assist the county sheriff’s office with crowd control and directing the runners. Several healthcare students will conduct general screenings and our technology pathway students have even prepared a radio station for runners to tune in to motivational music while racing our course through local industry.”
Registration is $25 per person and can be done at active.com or on race day. Proceeds help Rockdale Career Academy students attend events and competitions to further their career interests.
The course starts and ends at Rockdale Career Academy, 1064 Culpepper Dr. The mostly-flat terrain is family- and stroller-friendly and a great way to get back into the fitness habit or achieve a great course time.
Race day registration opens 10 a.m. The 1-Mile Fun Run starts at 10:30 a.m. The 5K Run starts at 11 a.m.
Awards will be given to the top finishers in the categories of Overall Male/Female, Masters Male/Female, and top three per age group Male/Female from ages 10 to 75-plus.
This year’s sponsors include High Priority Plumbing and Services, Food Depot, Sign-A-Rama, Snapping Shoals EMS, RCPS Work Based Learning.
