The Newton County School System (NCSS) Work-Based Learning (WBL) Programs at Alcovy, Eastside, Newton College and Career Academy, and Newton High School have announced this year’s WBL Employer of the Year. Because of their continued partnership and support of all NCSS WBL programs, Piedmont Newton Hospital has been named NCSS WBL Employer of the Year 2016.
Piedmont Newton Hospital offers job shadowing and internships for WBL students. Each summer the hospital offers the Summer Junior Volunteer Program that allows students to job shadow in various departments in the hospital and to learn valuable job skills. The hospital has employees who sit on the NCSS District-wide Career, Technical, and Adult Education (CTAE) Advisory Committee and Newton College and Career Academy (NCCA) Healthcare Advisory Committee. They participate in the Career Expo yearly and have offered to assist with school blood drives.
Thanks to their dedication and internship opportunities for students, Piedmont Newton Hospital is the NCSS WBL Employer of the Year and was recognized at the annual NCSS WBL Employer Appreciation Reception on April 26, 2016 at NCCA.
In addition, the Covington-Newton County Chamber of Commerce was named the NCCA Entrepreneurial Business Incubator’s Mentor of the Year for 2016. The Chamber has been a vested partner with NCCA’s EBI program and has consistently offered students the opportunity to showcase their businesses by hosting a Mini Shark Tank at The Center as well as partnering our students with established Chamber members. The Chamber hosted various training sessions for student startups and offered free Chamber membership for one year. It was also a treat to have partnered with The Chamber for NCCA’s Job Shadow Experience on February 25th, 2016.
