Prevent Child Abuse Rockdale (PCAR) is proud to announce their partnership with Rockdale Re-entry Intervention and Prevention Program (RRIPP) to provide a re-entry parenting program for inmates. This is a free program that helps a parent prepare for the challenges of transitioning into society after being imprisoned. The nurturing program will provide life skills, mentoring and advocacy. Resources and referrals will also be provided along with transportation.
The re-entry parenting program for inmates incorporates prevention. It consists of intervention classes that are provided in the local jail and are designed for families experiencing mild to moderate levels of individual and family dysfunction. The program works to stop the dysfunction and engages parents in the process of building positive nurturing beliefs, knowledge and skills.
Parenting is one of the most important jobs in the world yet it has the least amount of training available. Most parents don’t initially intend to be abusive but without proper training they make bad parenting decisions that can lead to child abuse. They need a better understanding of parenting. Helping parents succeed by providing programs that build awareness, educate, and collaborate is PCAR’s mission in preventing child abuse in Rockdale County.
At the heart of stopping child abuse is the need to change the mindset and actions that result in bad parenting. PCAR helps to create change by providing a number of programs that empower parents to do better. In addition to the re-entry parenting program, PCAR offers programs such as 1,2,3,4 Parents!, Active Parenting (in both English and Spanish), First Steps (for families with newborns), Positive Parenting (for parents with young adults ages 12-15 years old), and Triple P – Positive Parenting (for parents with children who have severe behavioral problems).
PCAR is a nonprofit organization that formed in 1989.
