Rockdale County Public Schools’ Parent Academy returns August 27, 2016 for its 11th semester of improving lives and strengthening families. The half-day event offers free classes for parents and teens at Rockdale Career Academy (RCA), 1064 Culpepper Road, Conyers, from 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Class topics include improving computer skills, financial planning, cooking, helping your kids with today’s math, self-defense, destressing, preparing for standardized testing and more – all focused on helping parents and students become successful in life.
Parent Academy Coordinator Darci Gilreath said she is proud of what Parent Academy has been able to provide for more than 4,300 parents who have attended previous sessions.
“There are a wide variety of classes that address a wide range of needs, and people from the community volunteer their time to deliver this valuable information,” said Gilreath. “There’s something for everyone, whether it’s getting help figuring out your next step in life, figuring out how to talk to your teenager, or just figuring out what to make for dinner.”
The keynote speaker will be RCPS Superintendent Richard Autry. The day also includes lunch and door prizes, with a special door prize drawing after the keynote address and an extra chance to win for those who preregister.
Childcare for children ages 3-10 is available for those who preregister by Aug. 22. Families needing care for children with special needs should contact Caroline Hull at [email protected] or 770-918-6187 ext. 33187 by Aug. 19.
Parents can also browse local businesses and non-profits in the vendors market. Vendors interested in participating and reaching parents should contact Darci Gilreath at [email protected] or 770-918-6174 ext. 33174.
