NCSS 5th Grade Honor Chorus to Perform Concert

NCSS_Logo2_400x400Newton County School System (NCSS) will host the 5th Grade Elementary Honor Chorus Concert on Friday, October 7, 2016 at 5:30 PM in the Alcovy High School auditorium. Admission is free and the general public is invited to attend.

According to Ms. Amy Rains, Music Specialist at Heard-Mixon Elementary School and Music Content Specialist for NCSS, each elementary school in the district sends approximately ten, fifth-grade students to represent their schools in the Honor Chorus. In order to make the chorus, students must first audition for their school music teachers.

Students and the schools they represent include:

  • East Newton: Alainah Almodovar, Arianna Baltazar, Jeremiah Ferdilus, Jaidyn Heard, Savannah Jones, Taylor Lee, Emma Oftedal, and Khendal Saunders
  • Fairview: Sarah Bishop, Aislyn Standard, Nyah Mcpherson, Alana Barnett, Trevor Laborn, LaTroy Williams, Haru Wilkins, Malachi Raimey, and Niya Viel
  • Flint Hill: Avery Fain, Brandon Monterrosas, Tyler Millwood, Haley Keller, Jaiden Dyer, Javier Martinez, Jordyn Davis, Kaitlyn Elliott, Katelyn Baker, and Kendyl Tyler
  • Heard-Mixon: Maggie Cheek, Reilly Darnell, Kushal Dwaram, Markayla Fears, Carmen Hinton, Aeriyana Johnson, Se’an Johnson, Abigail Kitchens, Mariana Mendoza, and Emma Michalek

Newton County School System’s Honor Chorus students will perform under the tutelage of guest clinician, Joel Singleton, choral director at Eastside High School.

“We encourage our school system employees and Newton County residents to attend,” said Ms. Amy Rains, Music Specialist at Heard-Mixon Elementary School. “I think the audience will be amazed at the musical talent on stage!”
