Marriage vs Putting

By Tony Dowdy | on March 15, 2016 | 0 Comment
eMetro Sports Featured

puttingI compare my daily putting experiences with marriage. Some days you love your putter and some days you wonder why the heck you ever took up the game. Just like marriage, there are days you think you got it figured out and then the very next day you wonder who’s going to be the first to pull the trigger and end this nightmare. Ok that may be a little dramatic, but you get the point.

There’s nothing more frustrating than to hit the ball solid all day long from tee to green, then get over your putt and feel so uncomfortable knowing the last thing you’re going to do is make this putt.

I will be glad to share some advice on both issues. I’ll start with a few putting tips.

  1. Get taller at address – It’s easier if you stand taller, don’t bend over so much.
  2. Check your pressure – Lighten your grip. Feel like you have no pressure or no tension in your arms.
  3. Lengthen your stroke – You should not try and hit a long putt harder than a short putt.
  4. Practice one handed – This will improve your feel. Notice your stroke will get longer.
  5. Keep head still – This above the rest will insure that you hit your putt solid.

Now for the advice you all were waiting for.

  1. Let her know from day one who’s the boss.
  2. Never willingly volunteer to go shopping – never!
  3. Never admit you did it.
  4. If she insists on doing something as crazy as a cruise, just say no and remember rule number one.
  5. In my case, make sure she never reads this article. (If she does I’ll let you know how the cruise went.)

Till Next Tee Time!
