The Leadership Rockdale Class of 2016 is seeking the public’s support with a major service project it is hosting in mid April to benefit the Walk of Heroes (WOH) Veterans War Memorial. Leadership Rockdale, which the Conyers-Rockdale Chamber of Commerce sponsors, is a leadership development program that selects local diverse and qualified individuals to participate in an experience that enhances personal and professional growth to benefit the community and region for the long term.
Volunteers will work on the Legacy Project on Saturday, April 16th by planting a butterfly garden, azaleas and gardenia shrubs, adding attractive signage for plant protection, and other beautification efforts near the entrance and stage areas of the memorial.
The class is seeking financial sponsorships, material donations such as plants, garden tools and supplies, funds from businesses, families and individuals, or any other items that could help make this much-needed project a success. For instance, a family can recognize a veteran by sponsoring a special, permanent sign located at one of the new plantings with a $250 donation.
WOH is an interactive memorial located on a three-acre site in Rockdale County in Black Shoals Park. The memorial strives to educate visitors and honor individuals who served in the U.S. military – active, guard or reserve – during and since the 20th century.
One main goal of the Legacy project is to unite the Leadership Rockdale 2016 class around a common purpose while investing their time, talents, money and energy into a sustainable project, as well as to raise awareness about WOH and the many positive ways it impacts the community.
Already class members have secured several sponsorships and have a goal of 40 total by the time of the project.
To donate, visit the WOH website at www.walkofheroes.org or contact Katie Beam at [email protected] . Donations can be made payable to Walk of Heroes and are tax deductible.
