Rockdale Medical Center is spearheading the fight against heart disease with the Red Dress 5K on Saturday, February 11, 2023. Help spread awareness about heart disease by running in the Red Dress 5K. Wear your red and join us in Making Communities Healthier®.
Heart disease is the number one killer of women in the United States. Based on statistics from the American Heart Association, 90% of women have one or more risk factors for heart disease or stroke, and fewer women than men survive their first heart attack. Additionally, statistics indicate that women who are involved with the Go Red for Women movement live healthier lives.
A primary focus of Rockdale Medical Center is to help women make heart healthy choices and manage their health issues while reducing their risk of heart disease. Medical research shows that heart disease can be prevented, controlled, or even reversed by changing habits and lifestyles.
A first step in reducing your risk is to understand your risk factors and warning signs. Risk factors include smoking, high blood pressure, elevated blood cholesterol or lipid levels, lack of regular exercise, being overweight, having high stress or anxiety, and having a history of heart disease. Heart attack warning signs include chest pain, shortness of breath, discomfort in the upper body (arms, back, neck, jaw, and stomach), nausea, and lightheadedness. Not every woman has these common symptoms; however, they are more likely than men to experience some of them.
Join the movement to fight heart disease by registering today for the Red Dress 5K on February 11, 2023. By building awareness and participating in events such as this, we can save lives and beat heart disease.
Race day registration starts at 8 am and the race starts at 9 am. The event will be held at Rockdale Medical Center, located at 1412 Milstead Avenue in Conyers, GA 30012. Register online at www.active.com.
